Flashing lights, great crowds, the drums’ rhythm, and the drinks. These are some of the things that we look forward to when we think about nightlife. We crave that good vibe, great ambiance, and that feeling of euphoria. I personally believe that there is no better feeling than the one you get when you are on the dancefloor with friends, and you are dancing to a really catchy song. Truth be told, a lot of events either flop or are a success because of the quality of DJs available. Sure, some can enter the scene with help from a dj finance loan, but even so it isn’t always so simple.

What Makes a Good DJ
Playing music for different people for a long time is very hard, and what’s even more difficult is keeping them entertained. People have different tastes when it comes to music, and finding that common ground can be difficult. In my opinion, what makes someone a great DJ is being able to read the crowd. What worked at a previous event might not be as successful at another event. A great DJ has to pay attention to when people are feeling the music and when they are getting bored.
Having a plan B is always advisable to keep the crowd entertained. A great example of when plan B is necessary is when a DJ before you plays the trending songs that you wanted to open your set with. Playing those same songs soon after, even though they are popular, will most likely lose the crowd.
A great DJ is one who is always up to date with new music. The music library has to be continuously updated, especially nowadays when artists are releasing new tracks on a regular basis. There are also overnight sensations who have hit songs that could be good to play at the next gig.
Research also comes in handy when playing at a private event, and there are a few intoxicated guests who keep making requests.

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone
A few DJs listen to a particular genre and, through their interest in it, end up specializing in that type of music when they play. It is good to be proficient at something because if you are going to do or play that one thing, you need to do it right. It, however, helps to play around with different sounds at home or in the studio, so you become diverse. It may happen that you are invited to an event where you are supposed to play rock and roll, for example, but it turns out that there are a few youngsters who want to listen to pop music. That shift from the comfort zone makes a DJ versatile, and in turn, more gigs come your way because people enjoy that switch.
Know Your Equipment
Machines and software are there to help us do our jobs better. They are there to also make our lives easier. It does happen that the devices or software become faulty and let us down. As much as that might be a good excuse for not playing well or on time for a DJ, for the angry mob who paid top dollar to see you, it is a flimsy reason.
It is vital that a soundcheck is done before the event starts. Speakers, laptops, and microphones are supposed to be checked to see if they are in good order. If you use your own laptop and equipment, make sure you have all the necessary cables and extensions. It also helps to be familiar with the laptop, as well as the OS on it. It will prove a bit problematic if you are used to Windows, for example, and then you have to use a Mac or vice versa. It also helps to be familiar with the different DJ software used at live gigs. The last thing you need is to be figuring out new software when an eager crowd is impatiently waiting on you to deliver.
